Bueno este es mi primer post. Ya navegaba por T! desde mediados del 2006 pero usaba el usuario de mi hermano como una especie de parásito ya que el registro estaba cerrado. Espero que lo disfruten.
Katatonia es un grupo sueco de Doom Metal, siendo al principio uno de los máximos exponentes del Death/Doom. Sus letras hablan de depresión, muerte, suicidio y crimen.
Biografía
Katatonia se formó en el 1991, por el dúo compuesto por Anders Nyström (Blackheim) y Jonas Renkse (Lord Seth), los cuales, tras la incorporación del bajista Guillaume Le Huch, publicaron su primera demo titulada Jhva Elohim Meth. Un año después dicho demo se publicaría como un EP.
En 1993 graban su primer disco, Dance of December Souls, ajustándose perfectamente a los patrones (por aquella época) de bandas como Anathema o My Dying Bride. Sus primeros lanzamientos se encuadran en un sonido marcado por la influencia del black metal depresivo (por lo que respecta a los desgarrados gritos de Renkse) y el doom épico, lento, mezclado con toques de rock gótico similares a Fields of the Nephilim. En esta primera época, las canciones son dirigidas por las melodías depresivas de la guitarra de Blackheim y el reverberante realce del bajo de Le Huch. A pesar de lo abrupto de algunas de las transiciones, cabe destacar la limpieza de su sonido, con apenas distorsión, los brillantes interludios acústicos y su primer éxito: Without God.
Tras la marcha de Le Huch (después de la publicación en 1995 del Mini-Cd For Funerals to Come), el sonido de Katatonia sufre un brusco reajuste, que culminará con la aparición de Brave Murder Day (1996) y el Mini-Cd Sounds of Decay un año después. La linea de bajos pierde gran parte del protagonismo, que pasa totalmente a las lineas de guitarra escritas por Blackheim. Creador prácticamente de un nuevo sonido apenas explotado anteriormente por otras bandas, los riffs de esta época y gran parte de la época más "rock" de la banda se caracterizan por una mayor distorsión y agresividad, una simpleza extrema y su repetición ad nausea, casi agónica. Mediante esta aproximación minimalista, la banda consigue ahondar más que nunca en la sensación de Catatonia como un estado de ánimo en el que la vida es incapaz de ningún progreso y donde el oyente se siente empujado a la introspección, a replegarse sobre si mismo como método defensivo. Es, quizá, su disco más cercano al Doom/Death, aunque esta clasificación quizá deba más a la sensación opresiva, angustiosa y, en definitiva, de No Progreso de las canciones que a su sonido (más acelerado que el sonido Doom estándar). Cabe destacar de esta época la colaboración de Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) cantando en las canciones más agresivas con un gruñido gutural típico del death metal. Para los fans del metal más extremo, esta época resulta la más fructífera de la banda, pues a partir de entonces Renkse desarrollaría un estilo vocal propio más cercano al rock, abandonando finalmente todo atisbo de brutalidad y las propias composiciones de la banda irían en busca de una creciente complejidad melódica en detrimento de la agresividad.
Después de varias publicaciones, Katatonia sorprendió a sus fans con el lanzamiento del álbum '"Discouraged ones" (1998). En este álbum y los sucesivos el grupo se ha ido apartando progresivamente de los estándares del Doom/Death metal para apostar con fuerza por un estilo de rock depresivo con tintes góticos. Lo que nunca ha perdido el grupo es su tono melancólico. Renkse mejora su entonación disco tras disco. Para cuando se publica Viva Emptiness (2003) su estilo vocal, distante y elegante, melancólico y reflexivo, ya está perfeccionado. En cuanto a las composiciones de Nyström, ganan en complejidad con cada lanzamiento. En cada nuevo disco de esta etapa de rock depresivo la banda experimenta con la inclusión de ambientes generados con sintetizador y con una complejidad melódica cada vez mayor (estructuras atípicas y sincopadas, desarrollo simultáneo de lineas melódicas diferentes e incluso ataques contrapuestos de guitarra durante el transcurso íntegro de una canción). Gracias a esta constante evolución de su sonido, Katatonia ha ido aumentando su popularidad álbum tras álbum, llegando cada vez a un espectro de público más amplio que bebe de los oyentes del rock alternativo y progresivo.
The Great Cold Distance (2006) supone el último salto adelante de la banda. En un curioso movimiento, Nyström abandona definitivamente su sonido tipo para lanzarse a la experimentación más salvaje. En las canciones de este disco, las melodías fluyen a lo largo de cada tema sin detenerse por un momento. Cada una por libre, en múltiples capas, para acabar configurando un tema cohesionado de increíble complejidad (tanto es así que resulta complicado gozar del disco con una primera escucha, siendo necesarios sucesivos intentos para entender qué está sucediendo). A pesar de haber abandonado el sonido más accesible de su etapa inmediatamente anterior, The Great Cold Distance ha sido un éxito de crítica y público, confirmando que la banda es cada día más popular.

"This highly original band started out in Stockholm as a duo way back in 1987 (originally as Melancholium) by Anders Nyström and Jonas Renske, and these main members has remained the creative force of the band ever since. It wasn't until 1992 and the demo JHVA Elohin Meth that things really started to happen for Katatonia. Even though they never actually played Black Metal (well, their early rehearsals can in fact be described as Black Metal - and fuck, were they ahead of their time in 1988!), Katatonia quickly got associated with that genre since it was the big trend of the times. They also used some of the Black Metal trademarks, such as corpse-paint, pseudonyms like "Blackheim" and "Lord Seth"... and for a long time they even had a pentagram in their logo."
Katatonia (Catatonia) is a psychiatric condition often associated with schizophrenia. It is characterized by a general absence of motor activity or violent, hyperactive behavior.
Katatonia had a mini-breakup circa 1996-1997, but reunited later. During this time, the band decided to change their sound to a more soft rock sound and leave their death metal sound behind.
Jonas was Katatonia's drummer on all of the album (as well as doing vocals) through ``Discouraged Ones``, with Dan Swanö taking over drumming duties on ``Tonight's Decision`` previous to Daniel's joining of the band.
Peaceville has bought rights to the masters of Katatonia's back catalog previously released on Avantgarde Music and will remaster and reissue all the full-lenght albums in digipak format. First up on October 23, is Brave Murder Day that will feature Sounds Of Decay as a bonus + revamped artwork + liner notes from the band. Peaceville has also bought the rights to some of the Katatonia members sideprojects, including Diabolical Masquerade and October Tide, with reissues to follow accordingly throughout the near future.

si el discouraged ones esta a 160 o mas y suena bien te doy +10, me bajé las 2 primeras de otro post y se nota que las bajaron de cds grabados o q venian de calidad inferior antes q la pasaran a 128.
